Claudia J.’s walls are covered in mold spores. Now it affects her health. But that should be fixed soon.
When you step into Claudia J.’s apartment, you can hardly believe your eyes. Extensive mold covers almost all the walls of the small rooms – you don’t just see it, you smell it. The woman from Vienna has been living in these appalling conditions for several months.
Health issues
“Now I have breathing problems and headaches,” she says. As reported, mold is the most common problem Viennese have at home. But rarely is it as extreme as with Claudia J.
“When you see such living conditions, you just can’t find the words, and it is a shame for Vienna that tenants have to live in such moldy apartments,” said housing ombudsman Michael Niegl (FPÖ).
Finding a difficult solution
Working with Wiener Wohnen proves difficult. According to J., the first calls told her to ventilate better.
According to the company, an appointment was made in February to inspect the damage: “But the tenant was not there.” It wasn’t until early March that she got in touch again. Now, in mid-April, an appraiser comes to the apartment and then the mold has to be removed.
