Police are raising the alarm in the federal capital Vienna about the shocking suspicion of several serial rapes – including dozens of mobile phone videos. The victim: an innocent girl (12). The perpetrators: some of them are children between the ages of 13 and 18.
The current investigation into suspected serious sexual abuse of minors is one of the most shocking sexual offense cases in recent criminal history. It focuses on the devastated childhood of a 12-year-old girl from Vienna. Her drama is shockingly reminiscent of Leonie’s tragic death.
But first things first: it all starts early last year with an innocent teenage romance. And ends in a months-long spiral of violence, threats, blackmail and even alleged serial abuse, captured on cell phone videos! The multiple gang rapes (up to eight perpetrators) are said to have taken place in a parking garage, an apartment or a stairwell.
Now the big bang: During a commando operation on Thursday morning, investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department, South Division, stormed dozens of apartments and temporarily arrested 17 suspects in the children’s rooms! The alleged perpetrators of the abuse – most of them with a Turkish but also a Bulgarian migration background – are themselves children between the ages of 13 and 18. At least four mobile phones were also seized.
Child predators laugh on football sites and TikTok
They smile from photos on football club pages and post ‘cool’ videos on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. But the criminals’ accusations are serious. Anna-Sofia (name changed by the editors) is said to have been pressured and coerced by her first boyfriend (“He held my head”). Then a shocking Stone Age Islamic image of women full of contempt is revealed.
Student was “passed on”
The student was distributed among the teenagers as a “trophy.” In the cell phone video of a gang rape, you can see the 12-year-old repeatedly shouting “Stop!” hear shouting. Out of shame and because she was blackmailed with the films, the girl remained silent for a long time. Until Anna-Sofia finally revealed herself to her mother.
After interrogation, the seventeen suspects were released from police custody yesterday and are said to be at large. During interrogations you yourself speak of ‘consensual sex’. In addition, the girl made herself look older and pretended to be a fourteen-year-old.
Now Vienna’s public prosecutor’s office must decide how to proceed. Because the alleged gang rapists fall under the juvenile criminal law, they ‘only’ risk five years in prison instead of a maximum of ten years for serious sexual abuse…
The Leonie case is still in the bones of the officers
The death of 13-year-old Leonie more than two years ago shocked not only the researchers, but the entire country. In detail: Passers-by found the young man lifeless on a grass verge in Vienna-Donaustadt at the end of June 2021. Three young men of Afghan descent between the ages of 19 and 23 were quickly targeted by investigators.
The night before, they mixed at least six ecstasy tablets – more specifically MDA – into the drink of their soon-to-be defenseless victim. When they were arrested, they were initially charged with rape resulting in death and aggravated sexual abuse of minors.
However, after a verdict in 2022, it quickly became clear that it was cold-blooded murder – that was the verdict of the jury at the first trial and the Supreme Court followed this verdict a short time later. The closing statement of “Justitia” last year: Even when they had the chance to get help, to call for help, they didn’t.
The 13 year old girl was still treated like a thing. It was taken and placed as an object. Last year, the president of the court closed the public court day with the words: “Even we have rarely encountered such a high degree of guilt!”
