As announced by Brussels, they have agreed to lift the veto on the ban on internal combustion engines in 2035. The measure was paralyzed because the German government wants to include this type of fuel in the agreement.
The Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermansannounced this Saturday an agreement with Germany for the lifting his veto on the ban on internal combustion engines in 2035.
“We’re coming an agreement with Germany about the future use of synthetic fuels in cars,” Timmermans announced on his Twitter account.
Brussels had raised a possible attack of synthetic fuels in the context of the negotiations on the ban on the sale of internal combustion vehicles in the European Union (EU) from 2035, a buddy who was paralyzed because the German government wants to include this type of fuel in the agreement.
The ban on the marketing of combustion vehicles (including petrol, diesel and hybrid) from 2035 postponed without a new date because of last-minute doubts expressed by Germany and Italy and which could jeopardize the adoption of the new standard, which is part of the climate package that the EU wants to promote this legislature reduce pollutant emissions by at least 55% of the block in the 2030 horizon and relative to that of 1990.
The measure was already approved last year in the plenary session of the European Parliament February 14thbut it was during the ambassadorial negotiations that Germany showed its reluctance to an inter-institutional agreement that had already been agreed last autumn.
“Now we are going to ensure that the CO2 standards for cars are adopted as soon as possibleTimmermans added, before warning that the legal framework for the uptake of synthetic fuels will only be developed when the basic agreement is unblocked and approved by the 27.
