A Tyrolean woman (65) in Zirl (Innsbruck-Land district) showed inexhaustible good faith: within three and a half years, the woman was repeatedly involved in various Internet scams. Despite several warnings, she transferred more than a hundred thousand euros to the crooks.
In October 2019, the woman in Zirl first became a victim of fraud, and in March she finally came to the realization. The 65-year-old has interacted via social media over the past three and a half years with several people who have taken money out of her pocket under various pretexts.
Departure, marriage, profit as a promise
The contacts mostly posed as men. Some promised the Zirl woman high profits or marriage, others asked her for money they would need for legal fees or transportation costs, or to leave Syria.
Time and time again, the Tyrolean transferred large amounts in the form of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin – even though a private detective repeatedly warned her that it was fraud. The victim should have realized by now what game was being played. However, the realization comes very late: the 65-year-old lost a total of more than a hundred thousand euros.
