A 61-year-old fled on vacation, leaving dozens of animals in disastrous conditions. It was a process full of shocking images in Graz.
The 35 ducks, 30 chickens and two geese were extremely emaciated. Inches of dirt in the pitch black barn. The food is moldy, no water anywhere. Among the manure: the carcasses of seven baby ducks. They were thirsty. The “Krone” reported on this cruel case in the summer.
Desperate animals ate moldy food
The owner appeared in court on Friday. Despite the photos as evidence, he denied any guilt. “When I flew on vacation everything was fine. The doctor (the official vet, note) photographed exactly where it was dirty.”
The desperation of the animals was described by the official veterinarian: “The animals ate the extremely moldy, smelly feed. In addition, there was cannibalism due to the lack of food supply.” He spoke of shocking images.
Report false statements
The 61-year-old still accepted the verdict – 2400 euros. “It doesn’t help,” he said. And his son and a friend, who testified in court despite overwhelming evidence that everything was great in court, are now facing a hefty charge of false testimony.
