Russian gas company Gazprom has justified the cut in supply by Poland and Bulgaria’s refusal to pay in rubles.
Russian gas company Gazprom has announced that gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria will be halted from this Wednesday. As the energy company explains, the termination is due to the refusal of both countries to pay in rubles.
Polish energy company PNGiG has warned that they view the Russian decision as a “violation” of the terms of the contract, for which they have announced they will be making claims. Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa assured on Tuesday before the news broke that “Poland has the necessary gas reserves” to “protect the country’s security”. “There will be gas in Polish homes,” he stressed in a post on his social networks.
For their part, they have assured from Bulgaria that the gas supply in Bulgaria is “guaranteed” and that “there is no risk to the energy security of the country”.
