A tragic accident took place early Tuesday morning on the L203 in Lustenau (Vorarlberg). A 48-year-old driver drove her car into the oncoming lane, first hitting a truck and then colliding head-on with another heavy vehicle. The woman suffered serious injuries.
The 39-year-old woman was driving her car on the L203 from Lustenau towards Hohenems at around 4:30 a.m. when she suddenly ended up in the oncoming lane. It was not immediately known if she had lost control of her vehicle or was becoming inattentive for some reason.
An oncoming truck driver tried in vain to dodge and his vehicle grazed the woman’s car. It ended up in the oncoming lane again and collided head-on with the next truck, seriously injuring the 49-year-old. After first aid, the rescue took her to the state hospital in Feldkirch.
Breathalyzer negative
An alcohol test carried out on site by the two truck drivers was negative. The car of the perpetrator is a total loss, both trucks suffered significant material damage. Because the car and one of the heavy vehicles were no longer roadworthy, they had to be removed from the scene of the accident by a towing service.
L203 in the area of the accident site remained closed from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. while police assessed the accident and cleanup operations were carried out.
