In 2021, more than a quarter of the funds of the Basque Development Cooperation Agency went to Africa, according to that year’s report published by eLankidetza. These are 41 initiatives, out of a total of 115, for an amount of €12,647,456 (out of nearly 50 million the agency has allocated).

In addition, more than a third of the African initiatives correspond to development cooperation projects carried out in the Horn of Africa, where there is an emergency due to famine and lack of water.

However, the objectives of the initiatives, as shown in the map below, are not limited to the humanitarian crisis leaving millions of people hungry, as these areas are criss-crossed by political, ethnic and social conflicts that exacerbate the crisis. prevent an effective response.
