3 injured in Tyrol – during evasive maneuvers: the mobile home falls into a ditch

Date:

Spectacular accident early Sunday evening in the Tyrolean Unterland: A German driver may have overlooked a car that was standing at a red traffic light in Rettenschöss (Kufstein district), wanted to avoid it and touched the car. The 59-year-old then ended up in the oncoming lane, where he collided with an oncoming motorhome, which was catapulted into the adjacent ditch by the impact. A total of three people were injured in the accident.

The accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. A motorist was driving on the B172 Walchseestraße towards Germany when he had to stop at Rettenschöss due to a red traffic light. The 59-year-old German driving behind him may have noticed this too late. “He tried to dodge to the other side of the road, but hit the compatriot’s car,” police said.

Camper thrown over dike
But that’s not all: at the same time, a German couple (65 and 64 years old) approached us with their mobile home. “The driver swerved towards the right shoulder of the road, but was unable to avoid a collision with the car. The camper was thrown into the ditch as a result of the collision and got stuck there in an oblique position between the trees,” the researchers continued. The 59-year-old’s car came to a stop in the middle of the road.

Three injured in hospital
The occupants of the mobile home were trapped in the driver’s cabin and had to be freed by the fire service. After receiving first aid at the accident site, the injured couple was transferred to the Kufstein district hospital. The 59-year-old driver, who also suffered injuries, was taken there by his wife.

The B172 had to be completely closed off in this area for the duration of the operation and the clean-up work. A diversion has been put in place by the area.
