It was an attempted murder: In Riedau in the Schärding district (Upper Austria), a Turk (38) wanted to kill his brother-in-law, who was a year younger. For this, he hatched an insidious plan and waited for the victim with a cleaver. We have four witnesses to thank that everything turned out well.
At around 11 p.m., the 38-year-old was waiting by the roadside in the city center. When the brother-in-law (37) drove by with his car, he threw a beer bottle on his car, causing it to stop. The youngster confronted his brother-in-law and eventually the duo started fighting. The 38-year-old pulled out a cleaver he had put in his pocket.
“I will kill you, your wife and your children”
The victim’s passenger and four witnesses who were en route managed to stop the attacker. They secured his arm and seized the ax from him. “I’ll kill you, your wife and your children,” the Turk muttered. His brother-in-law jumped in the car and drove home to protect his family.
Because the attacker had also run off and had taken his weapon with him. “Leave me alone. I came to kill him,” he threatened the witnesses. However, the 38-year-old Turk did not go to the “enemy” but went home to his wife and attacked her there in an argument, during which he hit her with a metal barstool.
But the 36-year-old managed to save herself and alert the police. In the meantime, the perpetrator ran away again, but was quickly caught – he still had the cleaver in his waistband and his blood alcohol level was 1.74.
Woman abused for years
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the 38-year-old had injured his wife in countless attacks with fists, sticks and pieces of furniture over a decade, requiring her to be hospitalized several times for serious injuries.
Because she was intimidated by her husband, she never pressed charges. When questioned, the 38-year-old refused to testify. He is trapped in Ried and is charged with attempted murder.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, he would have meant during the first interrogations that he did not want to kill anyone. He knew nothing about a gun. There was only a fight with the brother-in-law, he said. He also softened his wife’s abuse.
