Former US President Donald Trump has been accused of paying hush money to a porn actress, according to a New York Times report. Trump is the first former US president in history to be charged with a crime.
The investigation concerns an alleged $130,000 hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. The erotic star, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claims to have had a sexual affair with Trump in 2006. which this denies.
The payment itself would not be illegal, Trump’s lawyers have already admitted, but charges could be filed in connection with falsification of business documents or illegal campaign financing.
The New York Grand Jury is responsible for prosecuting. The deliberations of the commission of 23 citizens are secret. A decision was originally expected at the end of April.
The right-wing populist, who wants to run again for the US elections in 2024, denies all allegations and describes the investigation as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.
