Observant witnesses discovered thick clouds of smoke from an empty building in Vienna-Leopoldstadt on Thursday and immediately alerted the emergency services.
When the Viennese fire brigade arrived around 4:30 p.m., the flames could already be seen through the windows of the house. They immediately started with the necessary extinguishing measures. However, the flames had already eaten their way to the top of the house and were shooting out of the roof.
Dangerous firefighting
With a total of three extinguishing lines, the emergency services were able to control the spread of the fire with respiratory protection. With extra water cannons, a rotating ladder and a telescopic mast platform, the roof fire was successfully fought around 10 p.m.
During the operation, the access road to the port was closed. The cause of the fire is still unclear at this time. There are no injuries.
