It all started with a violent relationship dispute, for which police officers were called to an apartment in the city of Leonding on Monday night. After no one could be found directly at the apartment, the police searched the area.

They eventually found the couple, a 30-year-old man and his 29-year-old ex-partner, arguing wildly on the street near their home address. The two separately agreed that the end of their relationship was the cause of the dispute. The 30-year-old became increasingly aggressive towards the officers. Even warnings and the threat of arrest did not help, so the man eventually had to be apprehended and brought to the ground with physical force.

While the police officers were busy repairing the 30-year-old, an initially unknown person suddenly emerged and without warning punched an officer in the face with his fist, grabbed his shoulder and pulled him away from the arrested person. Despite the use of pepper spray, the man continued to assault and strangle the police officer.
It was only through the use of considerable physical force by the four police officers present that the attacker’s colleague could be freed and arrested. It turned out that he was the 50-year-old father of the 30-year-old, who actually lives in Neuzig.

The 50-year-old is still in police custody. His son was reported to the Linz-Land district administration and, like his former partner, to the Linz public prosecutor’s office for possession of drugs. The police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
