In the passenger seat, barely a kilometer from the hospital, with her husband and daughter in the car, a Styrian woman gave birth to her child: “Suddenly I had it in my hand!”
She has the lovely name Stella, was born on March 29 at 6.14 am, is 51 centimeters tall, weighs 3600 grams – and her lightning fast birth will probably be discussed at many a family celebration. “I woke up at 4:30 in the morning because I was having contractions,” says the mother, Timea Stangl from Werndorf. She already has a three-year-old girl, “then the contractions built up for hours, so I didn’t worry about it.” She took a shower, brushed her teeth, woke up her husband Dominik and Aurora an hour later.
“The contractions were getting harder”
At 05:50 they drove towards Graz. But half way through everything went very fast. Timea Stangl: “My contractions got stronger and stronger, I had to cover my mouth so as not to scream and frighten my daughter in the child seat.” But eventually it became dramatic, the contractions became more and more intense. “I’ve already yelled at my husband to drive much faster and ignore the red lights!”
Birth in the passenger seat
Less than three minutes from the hospital, the baby was unstoppable: “I took off my pants in the passenger seat – and the little one came, I suddenly had her in my hand. I quickly removed the umbilical cord that was around her neck. Fortunately she started screaming. It’s like being remote controlled. It feels totally unreal.”
Four of us to the hospital
And then you entered the previously informed sanatorium – four instead of three. Timea Stangl: “They couldn’t believe it.” We quickly went to the delivery room, “Daddy was allowed to cut the umbilical cord there. So that this delivery at least had something traditional,” laughs the relaxed mom, who is a guest star with her husband.
Mother and newborn were hospitalized for two days and the family is now home together. “And just happy!”
