A few days ago, the animal rights activists of “Pfotenhilfe” reported to the authorities after receiving photos of a rabbit cage that was absolutely not suitable for the species. Now the rescue has succeeded.
The two rabbits from Uttendorf had to survive in a much too small enclosure – reported the “Krone”. Now the two floppy ears have been removed by order of the authorities and handed over to animal rights activists.

Johanna Stadler from the animal protection organization “Pfotenhilfe” is grateful for the quick intervention: “Unfortunately, the poor animals are sick and neglected. They have extremely long claws, runny noses, eye infections and were fed raw potatoes. This naturally leads to diarrhoea!”
Already raised nine baby rabbits with bottles
But as of now it looks good. Once they are healthy again and the buck is neutered, they are free to roam in a large paddock with lots of new friends and dig holes if they feel like it. This year, “Pfotenhilfe” has already raised nine hare babies with a bottle that were either touched by children, brought to their owners as prey by dogs or cats, or rescued from dangerous situations.
Six have already been successfully released. Stadler: “The primary goal of any serious wildlife station should be to release wild animals back into the wild after they have been raised or cared for.”
Rescue workers are urging more attention
All wild animals should never be kept in human hands or even in captivity for longer than absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, brown hares are constantly exposed to many dangers: road traffic, tractors spraying liquid manure or even poison, hunters, dogs and cats endanger these wild animals.
“Pfotenhilfe” calls for more attention to wildlife: “And if you have injured an animal, you also have a moral and legal obligation to help it or organize help,” says Stadler.
