An avalanche in the Tyrolean Karwendel Mountains rose slightly on Easter Sunday. Two ski tourers may have caused a patch of snow and suspected two other winter sports enthusiasts were hit and buried by it. Fortunately, the all-clear could be given relatively quickly.
The avalanche broke out shortly after 11 a.m. in the area of the Spritzkarspitze in the municipality of Vomp (Schwaz district). As the control center of Tyrol on the “Krone” described, two touring duos drove independently of each other in the direction of the valley. One of them may have triggered the avalanche.
Winter sports no longer seen
“The other two were among the two winter sports enthusiasts. They were suddenly no longer visible, so the others assumed that they had been wiped out and buried,” says the team leader of the control room.
Clear everything quickly
An emergency call was made and an operation was initiated. Three helicopters, the mountain rescue service Achenkirch and dog squads were alerted. Fortunately, however, the all-clear was quickly given. It turned out that the two winter sports enthusiasts were able to escape the avalanche unharmed.
