A 30-year-old Polish skier was swept away by an avalanche in the Tyrolean town of Sölden on Easter Sunday and buried up to his waist. The injured woman was freed and then flown to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
The Pole was on the Tiefenbachferner with a contemporary and a German (28) on Sunday morning and took a “trip” into the open country. And that had fatal consequences.
Accident on a steep 35 degree slope
“A blizzard avalanche suddenly broke loose over the skier on the roughly 35-degree steep slope. The woman was swept away and buried up to her waist,” said a police spokesman when asked by “Krone”.
Helicopter to hospital
The woman sustained injuries. It is not known how heavy these are. After first aid at the scene of the accident, she was flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital in Zams.
