At least 72 people drowned in the Philippines in the first ten days of April. Among them were mainly holidaymakers, such as unsupervised children and drunks. The hotel employees should now take first aid courses.
The number of drowned is unusually high at 72. According to the police, a particularly high number of bathing accidents took place during Holy Week, when many people flocked to the beaches. “Some of the fatalities were children left unattended, some were drunk and others pulled each other down and drowned together,” police spokeswoman Jean Fajardo said. Parents should take better care of their children. Swimmers should also avoid going into deep water.
Fully booked hotels
In the Philippines it is currently around 30 degrees Celsius. The hotels and resorts in the Southeast Asian country were largely fully booked during the holiday season. In response to the unusually large number of drownings, first aid courses for hotel employees are being conducted in conjunction with the Ministry of Health.
