While predecessor Donald Trump announced in November that he would run for re-election in the next presidential election, incumbent Joe Biden has so far only hinted in the same direction. Now the 80-year-old has stated in a television interview that he wants to participate again next year.
“I intend to run, (…) but we are not ready to announce it,” Biden said Monday in an interview on NBC’s Today show ahead of an Easter event at the White House. “The decision phase is over,” the broadcaster quoted a confidant of the president. However, the 46th president has not yet had strong internal party competitors, so Biden can “take his time” with his official announcement.
Biden’s rivals in the Democrats
So far, two candidates have announced their running for Democrats: 70-year-old author Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy, cousin of former US President John F. Kennedy. The two get extremely low odds of winning the primary.
