Dramatic scenes took place on Tuesday evening in a motorway parking lot on the A2 near Ilz in Styria. A driver – he later turned out to be drunk – rammed the vehicle into a parked car, which was hurled into a 47-year-old man standing in the immediate vicinity of the car.
The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. A 41-year-old from Jennersdorf in Burgenland drove to the rest area to take a toilet break. He then got back in the car and wanted to drive onto the A2. However, the driver couldn’t – probably not least because of his alcohol consumption – he came off the right side of the road, crashed into a parked car and ended up on an embankment.
Fatal: the hit car skidded and was thrown with full force against the owner, a 47-year-old Pole. The man had just stretched his legs. The victim was seriously injured and was taken to the Feldbach Regional Hospital by the Red Cross. The driver of the accident was unharmed, he said.
