In the YouTube success format “The Race”, five participants without mobile phones and without money from Paris to Turkey. The adventurers are therefore one hundred percent dependent on the help of strangers. In the last episode there was one from Linz.
The concept behind “The Race” is actually quite simple and quickly explained: five participants are suspended in a foreign country and must arrive at the destination as quickly as possible.
After the first season last year was a complete success – the first episode achieved more than three million viewers – a sequel was just a matter of time. The second season runs on Joyn, a free streaming service since March 9, and two weeks later the episodes are also published on YouTube.
3500 kilometers long journey
In this year the five adventurers – four men and a young woman – were exposed to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. To experience the purpose of their journey, they first had to do a search through the French capital. Only then did they know where to go: namely to the Uçhisar castle in Turkish Cappadocia.
This means that the participants have to cover more than 3500 kilometers without money and without a mobile phone, only with the help of strangers. The fastest route per car takes 33 hours, on foot you would be on foot for 760 hours or 32 days.
Slept in one field
The approach of the “racer” is different. While some are looking for carpooling, others collect money and try to continue through public transport. Participant Felix led it to Upper Austria in the eighth episode.
He was released in the rest Area in Ansfelden, spent the night in his sleeping bag on a field edge and strengthened himself at McDonald’s in the morning. Then he continued with another helper on the highway to Budapest. Whether this path comes forward when the fastest is only shown in the following consequences …
