In a small town in Lower Austria, a major revolution in Austrian fish marketing is underway. As early as 2026, the company “Waldlachs” will be able to cover one third of Austria’s salmon needs from the Waldviertel alone. The “Krone” knows the first details as well as the technology and the prominent people behind it.
Austria imports no less than 9,000 tons of salmon from abroad every year. “Fishing” is common in Norway and Chile. Only about six percent of the total domestic demand can be met with fish from Austria. In order to sustainably strengthen the food supply and avoid long transport routes, this marketing is being reconsidered and turned upside down. And all this only through one company.
