The State Administrative Court has issued an order against the allocation of Fiaker stands by the city of Salzburg. The new Fiaker contract is a deterioration of animal welfare and therefore illegal.
Now it needs to be checked: the new Fiaker contract, which would result in significantly worse conditions for the horses due to the extension decided in November 2022, is illegal. The Administrative Court of Salzburg found this and issued an injunction against it.
No rest days after working days
For example, in the new contract there were no rest days after the horses’ working days. Furthermore, heat-free from 35° Celsius was deleted. Similarly, the concession award by the city of Salzburg had not legally expired, partly due to a lack of transparency in the basis of the award decision.
The association against animal factories announced in July 2022 that a total of 73 prescribed rest days for carriage horses had not been observed within 24 days. Also caused a stir by a case in which a Fiaker driver in Salzburg had smeared chili paste in his horse’s mouth.
