A total of seven referenda are available throughout Austria from Monday. Among other things, a chain law, the independence of the judiciary and the preservation of summer time can be signed. Another referendum calls for Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) to leave the federal government. The registration period runs from 17 to 24 April.
The request “Security of an independent judiciary” advocates, among other things, the reintroduction of investigative magistrates and the establishment of an independent federal prosecutor’s office. The “Supply Chain Law Referendum” around lawyer Marcus Hohenecker initiated by the same group calls for the decision of such a person.
The referendum “Cash payment: upper limit no!” calls for the resolution of “a federal (constitutional) law for the permanent protection of unrestricted cash payments”. The one on “maintaining summer time” argues for “maintaining summer time as ‘normal time'”.
Three other referenda were tabled by Robert Marschall. As reasons for the request “Nehammer must go!” include “the mandatory vaccination he is pushing for, the police crackdown on the peaceful people, and the terrorist attack on November 2, 2020”. The “True Democracy – Referendum” advocates, among other things, referendums that can be initiated by the people (for example through referendums) and voting rights without percentage thresholds. “GIS Fees No” advocates the abolition of all general fees and charges for funding the ORF.
100,000 signatures must be collected
The referendums can be signed at any registry office throughout Austria or online using an electronic signature. From 100,000 signatures, the concern in question must be dealt with in parliament.
