Facua warns that 4 out of 10 reduced VAT foods have increased their prices

The consumer organization has followed the evolution of 991 food prices affected by the VAT reduction in Alcampo, Aldi, Carrefour, Dia, Eroski, Lidel, Hipercor and Mercadona.

The consumer organization Facua warned that four of the ten products analyzed in April have increased their prices, after tracking the evolution of nearly 1,000 food prices hit by the VAT cut in eight major distribution chains.

Given these facts, Facua will expand the complaints which he already submitted to the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) in January, February and March, which continues to this day without him no kind of answer.

As is customary in recent months, the union has announced the development of 991 prices in a statement Alcampo, Aldi, Carrefour, Dia, Eroski, Lidel, Hipercor and Mercadonathe eight leading supermarkets in previous surveys.

The new analyses, performed on days April 3, 4, 5 and 11found that in 416 cases (42%) the price has become more expensive compared to what they had on December 30, after the VAT reduction was applied.

The highest number of deviations, at Aldi and Carrefour

For example, the largest number of anomalies detected in April can be found at Aldi, where 29 of the total of 57 prices analyzed (50.8%) have become more expensive, followed by Carrefour, with 82 more expensive products than last year. of 167 prizes (49.1%).

In turn, Alcampo raised 62 of the 133 analyzed prices (46.6%), while Hipercor did so for 77 of the 166 foods collected in this study (46.3%) and Lidl for 25 of the total 56 foods (44.6%), while in Dia 56 of the 139 considered items have become more expensive (40.2%).

The lowest percentage of price increases, in Eroski and Mercadona

On the other hand, the two chains in which the lowest percentage of price increases were recorded were Eroski, with 42 products out of a total of 129 included in the analysis (32.5%), and Mercadona, with 43 increases between the 144 recorded prices (29, 8%).

The biggest increases, in fruits and vegetables

Facua has found that 152 expensive amounts correspond to fruit or vegetables (36.5%), while 80 are olive oil (19.2%), 63 belong to milk or dairy products (15.1%), 54 relate to rice or pasta (12.9%) and 33 legumes (7.9%), to which have been added about thirty prizes corresponding to flour, eggs and bread.

In addition, and as usual, the biggest price increases in the past month have been related to fruits or vegetables, more precisely onions, carrots or iceberg lettucewhich have become very expensive in practically supermarkets.
