Negotiations falter – social economy demonstration for higher salaries

Date:

In the faltering collective labor agreement negotiations for the 130,000 employees in the private care, care and social sectors, the employees kept busy on Tuesday with work meetings and a demonstration from Christian-Broda-Platz to Ballhausplatz. The GPA and Vida unions are demanding a 15 percent pay rise from employers, who had offered 7.5 percent.

Tuesday’s union action is particularly noticeable in all-day primary schools in Vienna: afternoon care is canceled due to work meetings of the city’s leisure teachers, and the school ends at 2 p.m. at mixed-supply facilities. However, in sensitive sectors of industry, such as healthcare, activities should continue, it was emphasized.

The ideas of employers and employees are still far apart in the negotiations, the third round of negotiations on the collective labor agreement was recently interrupted without result. The unions GPA and vida are demanding a 15 percent salary increase with a minimum of 350 euros, better working conditions and more free time. After all, the staff has been on continuous crisis service for three years. Employers offer 7.5 percent or at least 150 euros.
