Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has left the intensive care unit at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital after 12 days. The 86-year-old was transferred to another ward in the same clinic as his condition steadily improved, the head of intensive care, Alberto Zangrillo, said in his recent bulletin on Sunday.
Berlusconi was admitted to the intensive care unit of the San Raffaele clinic in Milan last Wednesday after complaining of breathing problems. Doctors then diagnosed leukemia.
Berlusconi has repeatedly struggled with serious health problems in recent years. The multibillionaire underwent open-heart surgery in 2016, an intestinal obstruction in 2019 and was in hospital for more than three weeks in 2021 due to the consequences of a corona infection.
Berlusconi served as Prime Minister of Italy four times (1994-1995, 2001-2005, 2005-2006 and 2008-2011). His right-wing conservative party Forza Italia has been part of the governing coalition led by right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni since October, but has lost prominence in recent years. Berlusconi himself was elected to the Senate in September’s parliamentary elections.
