In the Netherlands, authorities have closed part of a vast nature park after a little girl was bitten by a wolf. The area around Den Treek has been closed ‘as a precaution’, local authorities in the municipality of Leusden say.
Authorities referred to “several incidents involving a wolf.” Police have not yet confirmed the wolf bite on the little girl, but are taking the matter “very seriously,” a spokeswoman for the Utrecht region said.
According to her parents, the girl was bitten in the thigh during an outing with her nursery school. The child suffered “minor injuries” but was mostly “shocked”, the nursery school management explained. But the girl is doing well.
The number of wolves in Europe has increased significantly in recent years as a result of conservation measures. However, the growth of the wolf population has led to widespread protests among farmers.
