Second launch attempt for the world’s largest rocket

Date:

The first test of the “Spaceship” – the largest missile system in space history – had to be called off, the second attempt should succeed: this afternoon it would take off from Earth for the first time (see live stream above). “Spaceship” should enable manned missions to the moon and Mars in the future.

The missile system consists of the approximately 70 meter long “Super Heavy” booster and the approximately 50 meter long upper stage, also called “Starship”. The “Starship” system is designed so that the spaceship and rocket can be reused after returning to Earth.

The start was scheduled for 3.30 pm, just before the countdown to the final checks was interrupted. Even if all goes well, the “Starship” shouldn’t fly far: In today’s test, it should take off from Brownsville, Texas, and land 90 minutes off the Hawaiian island of Kauai in the Pacific Ocean.

In fact, the “Starship” of tech billionaire Elon Musk’s private aerospace company SpaceX was supposed to take off Monday for its first short test flight in Brownsville. However, it was delayed shortly before its scheduled start due to a valve problem.
