“Intimacy disrupted” – New Kahlenberg cable car: nudists are afraid of onlookers

Date:

The planned cable car project, which will lead along the Danube Island to the Kahlenberg and offer a beautiful view, is causing a lot of excitement in Floridsdorf’s naturist community. Because: The route is partly planned along the popular nudist zone on the northern Danube Island and could attract curious looks.

The community sees this as a threat to their haven of peace and fears invasion of privacy. “Since cell phone cameras came along, I don’t care anymore. I don’t want to end up on the internet,” says naturist Barbara Hausjell.

The self-proclaimed naturist (72) regularly gets a seamless tan in summer in the nudist area on the Danube Island near Strebersdorf. If it is up to project developer Hannes Dejaco, all future cabins of his cable car will be there in the future. This is a thorn in the side of the retired Hausjell.

“Invitation to unpack the camera”
“Driving on such a long route over and past the Danube Island is almost an invitation to unpack the camera,” says the 72-year-old. “People’s privacy is being seriously violated.”

The concerns of nudists are also well known at the Floridsdorf Greens. “In any case, it is a write-down,” says club president Heinz Berger. Although Berger emphasizes that the nudist zone is not the only counterargument. Within the district council in Floridsdorf, a cross-party resolution against the project was recently passed by the SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ, Groenen, Initiative Wiener Bürger (IWB), Team HC Strache and the Beer Party.

Routing through the nudist zone is very small
The route runs from Heiligenstadt station via the Danube Island to Jedlesee, from there along the Hubertusdamm to Strebersdorf and via the Danube Island back up to the Kahlenberg. Dejaco emphasized that the area where the route and the nudist zone would intersect is very small. “We’re only touching a short 200-meter stretch.”

Possible actions
However, measures have already been taken for this. “In order to protect those seeking relaxation on the Danube Island and especially in the nudist area from the gaze of the passengers, the windows of the cabins can be equipped with an automatic frosted glass switch if necessary,” said the entrepreneur. “This means that, for example, the lower part of the cabins are automatically switched to opaque when traversing the corresponding areas.”

This is how gawkers are stopped. He is not worried about the route from Jedlesee to Strebersdorf. “There is also a bike path along the Danube. The cyclists can also look over the nudist area.”
