The lehendakari assures that he finds it “incomprehensible from an ethical, political and institutional point of view” that EH Bildu does not understand that “it is not only unfair but also insulting and hurtful to the victims”.
the lehendakari, Inigo Urkulluhas said that “any kind of misunderstanding or confusion between victims of terrorism and perpetrators” is not acceptable, and has indicated that it is “incomprehensible from an ethical, political and institutional point of view” that EH Bildu does not understand.
Urkullu delivered these words during the plenary session of the Basque Parliament this Friday in response to a question from the Vox parliamentarian, Amaia Martínez, about the controversy caused by the publication of the names of ex-members of the extinct ETA together with those of victims of terrorism in the memory web pages of eight municipalities Basques designed by the Aranzadi society.
The lehendakari has asked the Sovereignist Coalition if it is so difficult “to understand that it is not only unfair, but also insulting and hurtful to the victims that the murdered and their killers appear on the same level of memory”.
He recalled that from the first moment the existence of the Galdakao website became known, the first thing that came to light was that the Basque Government recalled the document prepared in 2018 by the Gogora Institute for the preparation of municipal memory reports and human rights.
Urkullu, who has expressed his “absolute respect and recognition” to the society Aranzadi for the “professionalism” in all its actions, he has insisted that the Basque government “will always be on the side of the victims of terrorism, without using ambiguous terms and with public recognition”.
