Health hazard – Watch out for Salmonella! Sesame Snack recalled

Date:

The sesame snack “Koska Susam Krokan Sesame 40g” from Sabex Handelsgesellschaft is being recalled due to possible salmonella.

It concerns the product with the best before date December 14, 2023 and lot number 99-165/22. Foods contaminated with salmonella can cause gastrointestinal disorders in consumers, particularly in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

It is therefore not recommended to consume this product. For safety reasons, the entire inventory of the product, ie all best before dates and batches, has been withdrawn from sale. Affected products that have already been purchased can now be returned without a receipt.

Caution is the most important thing
Salmonella feels most comfortable at room temperature between ten and 40 degrees Celsius. Cooling and freezing only slows down multiplication, but doesn’t kill the germs yet. Only heating to over 70 degrees reliably kills them.

Salmonella is most commonly found in raw and undercooked products of poultry, meat, fish and raw milk, recipes with raw eggs such as tiramisu, mayonnaise, cake creams and ice cream, beef tartar, soft-boiled eggs or fried eggs.

A salmonella infection – also known as salmonellosis – leads to diarrhoea, fever, vomiting and abdominal pain within six to 72 hours and can be life-threatening in the elderly due to high fluid loss. Small children, pregnant women and people with a weak immune system are also at particular risk.
