Police Service Dog Unit (PDHE) officers were looking for narcotics near the Danube Canal shortly after midnight when strangers suddenly threw beer cans at them. At the same time, a pyrotechnic object was said to have been thrown from a bridge. The fireworks exploded just meters from the officers and the assistance dog.
After the attack on the officials on the Danube Canal at Franz-Josefs-Kai, the emergency services immediately provided reinforcements. With the help of the city command, the agents tried to catch the alleged perpetrators. But without success.
Service dog was unharmed in the attack
Three firefighters were injured in the operation. They could not continue their service, the Viennese police report. Fortunately, the service dog was unharmed and was examined at a veterinary clinic after the incident. Investigations into officer assault, aggravated assault and attempted animal cruelty are now underway.
