The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agriculture has not stated when that will be, but thinks the date is “closer than far”. However, he recalled that the drought or whatever related to the situation in Ukraine will affect the price of food.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agriculture, Luis Planas, is “absolutely convinced” that food prices will fall, although it has asked consumers for “patience” as it will be some time before it is seen on supermarket shelves. “You have to be patient until we lower prices and I think it’s closer than far.”
When asked when the fall in food prices will be noticeable, Planas prefers to be cautious, about a week in which the advance data of the CPI is known. “I have no privileged information and I do not know what the INE will publish. But now we are below the European average, which is 19.2. Inflation is always bad for the economy and bad for citizens. It is a phenomenon that we control, which comes on very quickly and which is very difficult, especially painful, to control. But, but we are working on it, I think the whole food chain is undoubtedly making an effort,” he repeated.
However, Planas has acknowledged that the drought will affect the price of food as it will become more expensive. “I am absolutely convinced that prices are going to come down, but there are also circumstances, such as the drought or what is related to the situation in Ukraine, that affect us. There is a clear will from the government, in the same way that we have overcome the pandemic, to overcome this situation,” Planas assured in statements to “Today” of “Cadena Ser,” collected by Europa Press.
“We are going to see what happens because different elements are intersecting. The fall in energy prices and the price of fertilizer is good. But we have risk factors like Russia’s warning about the Black Sea market. And other factors like drought. we will raise it in the Council of Ministers of the EU,” he has put forward.
In this way, the Minister of Agriculture has emphasized the smooth operation and the “effort” that the food chain is currently making, so he does not “believe” that no one is increasing its margins.
