Is summer chaos looming? – Delivery delays: Ryanair has to cancel flights

Date:

A few flights are likely to be canceled again in August. The reason: Europe’s largest low-cost airline Ryanair is experiencing delivery delays at aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

Aviation chief Eddie Wilson tried to calm down on Tuesday. According to him, customers will hardly feel the cuts, he explained to Reuters news agency. “We are not canceling routes.” If necessary, this can be accommodated by reducing the frequency of frequently flown connections.

Popular destinations booked up faster?
For example, there could be four instead of five daily flights to Malaga, Spain. “There is no significant impact as all bookings for August have not yet come in,” said Wilson. He heads Ryanair, the group’s largest airline, which also includes Buzz, Lauda and Malta Air.

Ryanair Group boss Michael O’Leary recently said the airline could scale back its July flight schedule due to potential delivery issues with Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft. Wilson explained that there may be a single-digit number of machines missing – with a fleet of about 550 aircraft. Boeing has not yet presented a detailed delivery plan. The manager reiterated that Ryanair will still meet its target of carrying around 185 million passengers in the financial year ending March 2024 – “yes, absolutely”.

“It Won’t Be Perfect”
In particular, a lack of staff across the entire aviation industry after the Corona lull had led to queues, delays and thousands of canceled flights across Europe by mid-2022. Not everything will run smoothly over the holiday season this year, but airports and airlines are certainly better prepared, Wilson said. “I’m not expecting the mess we had last summer, but it won’t be perfect.”
