Not averse to smoking – contraceptive pill soon free in Austria?

Date:

For Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) it is quite conceivable that the contraceptive pill will soon be available free of charge in Austria. A study is currently being carried out on this question, he said after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The results should be available in the autumn at the latest. Unanswered questions about free contraception are mainly about the costs and the specific implementation, Rauch reports. But in essence the minister was positive: “Yes, I can imagine that. However, the general terms and conditions must be correct.”

The current food for thought about free contraception probably comes from one of our neighboring countries: in Italy, women of all ages will be able to get the contraceptive pill for free in the future. This has been decided by a committee of the Italian drug agency Aifa. The contraceptive pill is included in the list of freely available medicines.
