More than three weeks after the devastating earthquake, crisis workers in Turkey rescued a dog from the rubble. The white dog was rescued from the rubble in the city of Antakya. He was able to find food under the rubble and therefore survived, according to the emergency services.
A video showed how an employee of the National Disaster Service Afad held the animal in his arms.
Workers heard noises under the rubble
As state news agency Anadolu Ajansi reported Thursday night, workers heard noises under the rubble while clearing debris and then discovered the terrier. When the four-legged friend was rescued, a dead person was found who was presumably the owner of the dog.
Dog taken to hospital
The dog was taken to a clinic for a check-up.
According to Anadolu Ajansi, five sheep and goats were also rescued from the rubble of a house in Gaziantep on Thursday.
Several centers have been set up in the earthquake area for the care of pets and stray animals. For example, the Turkish animal protection organization Haytap is on site with teams that specialize in rescuing and caring for animals.
