A tobacconist was caught on Wednesday morning after a brief escape in Vienna-Favoriten. The 30-year-old Russian is said to have threatened an employee with a knife. The criminal also reached into the cash drawer to get the money. The 54-year-old tobacconist hit the man, but without success. The perpetrator managed to escape with the loot.
A witness from a nearby bakery gave chase and the 30-year-old was arrested, according to police. The murder weapon has been recovered and the stolen goods have been returned to the employee. The arrested man confessed and was transferred to a prison. He stated that he acted in need of money.
The robbery in the cafe has also been solved
A robbery of a cafe two weeks ago in Meidlinger Malfattigasse has also been clarified. The two robbers first entered the bar and ordered drinks. After consumption, one of the two men allegedly threatened an employee with a firearm – probably a blank pistol – demanded money and also shot into the air. The suspects made off with money and a bottle of alcohol.
Through DNA traces and detailed witness statements, the men – a 29-year-old Austrian and a 34-year-old Serb – were tracked down and arrested in an apartment in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. Both refused to testify and were taken to a detention center.
