Right next to the pasture, a cow broke into a shaft in the Carinthian municipality of Griffen on Saturday and got stuck. The fire department went to the animal ambulance.
The farmer noticed the accident on his farm in Pustritz around 1 p.m. on Saturday and immediately alerted the fire brigade. “The cow had collapsed halfway through. When we arrived, the animal was already quite exhausted. It must have tried to free itself, but a leg got stuck right in the shaft, making it impossible for the cow to get out of the situation on its own,” says René Kanz, commander of the Griffen volunteer fire brigade.
The rescue was not easy
According to the emergency services, the rescue was not so easy. “Everything around it is very boggy and muddy, which made it all more difficult.” Fortunately, the exhausted animal was rescued unharmed by local farmers who provided a tractor with a winch.
