In Australia, a 13-year-old caused a serious accident with a stolen car. Three girls and women between the ages of 17 and 52 were killed. Another woman (23) is also in mortal danger.
The accident happened late Sunday evening in Maryborough, north of Brisbane on the east coast. According to broadcaster ABC, the boy drove the stolen car from behind into another car, which then entered the oncoming lane. It collided with an oncoming car. Australian media reports speak of a “horror crash”.
The boy only slightly injured his foot. However, three girls and women aged 17, 29 and 52 died. A 23-year-old was also flown to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition.
Police knew the driver of the accident
According to a spokesman for the authorities, the young accident driver was already known to the police. Further details were not given. The 13-year-old is reportedly in police custody and charged with three counts of dangerous driving and fatal accidents. He must appear in court soon.
It is not known what punishment awaits him. In Australia, however, there is a strict juvenile criminal law. Recently, a 13-year-old, also in the state of Queensland, was sentenced to 60 days in a juvenile detention center for punching a peer during an argument and snatching his smartphone from his hand. During his detention he spent a long time in solitary confinement.
