No smoking gun, no blood-stained shirt, but plenty of clues should clear up a 2008 murder case at the regional court in Klagenfurt on Tuesday. A 49-year-old is said to have brutally murdered his lover. The Moroccan was sentenced to life imprisonment after an hour-long trial.
Prosecutor Sandra Agnoli starts the trial against the 49-year-old Moroccan with shocking photos for the jury: she shows the lay judges the photos of the dead Anna T., whose body was discovered in 2008 in the city forest of the Völkermarkt. “You need to know what we’re talking about today,” the prosecutor almost apologizes for the crime scene photos showing what was done to the victim 15 years ago.
Performed with four shots
The 49-year-old Italian was beaten, suffocated and then shot four times. “An overkill, clearly a relationship act,” says Agnoli. After the long investigation, the suspect was the only suspect identified via a DNA hit: because Brahim A. had demonstrably had sex with Anna T shortly before her death. “But he didn’t kill her,” says lawyer Nikolaus Rast. . “He’s not a nice person, has a lot of criminal records and is definitely a villain, which shouldn’t please the women here. But he’s not a murderer.”
Life imprisonment is imminent
Rast does not paint a nice picture of the victim either. Anna T. was part of the Turin underworld – she had been forced to flee because of gambling debts. “Perhaps this is the motive. Some suspicious individuals have emerged over the years who were able to kill Mrs. T.” The suspect himself only said “not guilty” and refused to give further statements. How the jury will judge that remains to be seen.
Life imprisonment for 49 year olds
After hours of trial, the suspect was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday evening. The verdict is not final.
