Tragedy in a family business in Mühlviertel (Upper Austria). The 30-year-old owner of the sawmill was fatally injured on Tuesday while repairing a wheel loader. No one noticed the accident; only when his father looked did he discover the son, for whom there was no help anymore.
The 30-year-old sawmill owner from Lichtenau im Mühlkreis (Rohrbach district) was repairing his wheel loader on Tuesday evening around 7 p.m. and wanted to remove a defective hydraulic hose from the control block. Due to incorrect operation or a technical error, the lifting arm and the bucket came loose.
Five fire brigades in action
The 30-year-old was trapped between the hydraulic control unit and the lifting arm and was crushed. There were no witnesses to the incident; the father of the accident victim later came from the neighboring house to investigate. When he saw his son, he immediately called the emergency services.
Five fire brigades came to help, of course supported by an emergency doctor, but could only determine at 21:10 that the young entrepreneur was dead. There are no indications of possible negligence by third parties.
