There is no longer any doubt that the remains found at Traunstein belong to the young American woman who disappeared in Scharnstein in mid-March and has since been considered missing. The find now also provides information about the course of the accident.
The DNA comparison will take a while, but there is no longer any doubt: the body found on Sunday between Laudachsee and the eastern ridge of the Traunstein is Adriana E. (22), who was reported missing on March 17 in Scharnstein . Mountain rescuers assume that she wanted to climb the Gassnersteig to the “Hohe Scharte” or was already on the ridge when she slipped and fell about 100 meters down.
Backpack proves crash
She must have slipped some more in the snow before a tree finally stopped her from falling. The condition of the backpack found some 25 meters below the body also proves that it was a crash: the straps were torn by the force of the impact.
Mysterious phone records
The researchers assume that the young American woman alone walked the approximately 15 kilometers from the Buddhist center in Scharnstein to Laudachsee and further in the direction of “Hohe Scharte”. The evaluated mobile phone data, which was received not only in Laudachsee, but also in the opposite direction, in Laakirchen, is still a bit confusing.
After the autopsy is complete, Adriana’s body can be shipped to the family in the United States.
