The President of the United States, Joe Bidenwarned Tuesday that he is preparing a “response” to defend abortion in the country in the face of the Supreme Court overturning regulations protecting this right.
“If this decision goes through, it will be something very radical,” the president criticized in statements to the press before boarding the plane to the state of Alabama.
After filtering a Supreme Court design which would overturn the protection of the right to abortion in the United States, in effect since 1973 and known as “Roe vs. Wade”Biden has considered it would represent “a fundamental shift in US jurisprudence.”
The design is authentic
Chief Justice of the United States, John Robertsconfirmed the authenticity of the design on Tuesday, although he emphasized that it is not a final decision.
Roberts has ordered the opening of an investigation into the leak and has indicated that the… “treason” intended to “undermine the integrity” of the court’s work. In a statement, he assured that the work of the Most High “will not be affected in any way.”
Biden believes that the state should not interfere in people’s private lives, such as abortion or equal marriage. “I’m not willing to leave that to the whims of the public,” he said.
In a statement, the president claimed that abortion is a a “fundamental” right and has promised that the government will “be ready when a ruling is made” in this regard.
The president has explained that, despite efforts by several Republican states to restrict abortion, he has instructed White House attorneys to “prepare options for a government response to the ongoing attack on abortion and reproductive rights.”
Revocation of abortion rights could lead to 21 states banning it
The Supreme Court’s possible repeal of the right to abortion in the United States could lead to up to 21 conservative-majority states banning it completely, according to estimates by the nonprofit. Planned Parenthood
“Roe v. Wade” is a ruling that protects women’s right to abortion as constitutional, preventing states that make up the US from banning this practice.
Before the ruling, in 1973, 30 of the 50 states that make up the US had laws prohibiting abortion at any time during pregnancy.
According to Planned Parenthood, if “Roe v. Wade” finally takes place in June, up to 21 states could completely ban abortion again, some as prominent as Texas, Arizona, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana or Wisconsin
A hypothetical reversal of the 1973 ruling would not ban abortion nationwide, but would remove the protections for this right, leaving the most conservative states free to ban it.
