Another Drone Strike – Wagner Boss on Kremlin Attack: “Only Thunderstorms”

Date:

The head of the infamous Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has commented on the drone attack on the Kremlin and came across as insensitive – as you would expect from Vladimir Putin’s cook. Meanwhile, Russia is not calming down: for the second time in a short time, a major fire has broken out in a tank farm near the Crimean peninsula.

There were spectacular scenes in Moscow on Wednesday night. According to Russian information, two drones tried to attack Putin’s residence on the Kremlin grounds and were intercepted by the army and the secret service. Videos of a fireball in the city center circulated. Ukraine and Russia blame each other for the attack.

It was the first time since World War II that the Kremlin was attacked. Now many Russian citizens are wondering when exactly the “red line” that the propagandists always talk about on TV will be crossed and pull Russia even harder.

That is certainly not the case with Wagner boss Prigoschin. He says matter-of-factly, “There is no way I can comment on this event. Maybe lightning just struck.’ He now has other concerns. The main thing is to get grenades so that “something happens in Bakhmut”.

As reported, the mercenary unit is suffering heavy losses due to a lack of supplies. “Every day we have piles of thousands of bodies that we put in the coffin and send home,” Prigozhin said in an interview published Saturday.

Another drone strike
On Thursday morning, Russia’s state agency TASS reported another drone strike, citing rescue workers. In the south of Russia, a tank farm of an oil refinery in the town of Ilski is on fire.

A similar incident had occurred the night before in the Volna settlement, about 50 kilometers away, in the Taman district, which is also in southern Russia’s Krasnodar region. There, too, a fuel reservoir caught fire and the Russian authorities also cited a drone attack as the cause. On the outskirts of Volna is a large transshipment terminal for oil and oil products, which are then shipped across the Black Sea.

Attacks pile up
Most recently, attacks on strategically important infrastructure have increased in Russia, which is waging a war of aggression against neighboring Ukraine. Over the weekend, a drone was used to set fire to a fuel depot in Crimea, which had been annexed by Russia in 2014. In the western Russian region of Bryansk, two freight trains derailed shortly after each other after explosions. Drone attacks were also involved in these cases.

The affected regions are all close to Ukraine. A counter-offensive is expected in the near future to liberate the territories occupied by Russia. The attacks can be part of the preparation.
