It is rare, but breaking a walking stick during the descent of the Spitzstein in Erl in the border area to Bavaria killed this hiker.
The 86-year-old German hiked from Erl to the Spitzstein (1586 m) on the Bavarian border on Thursday morning. During the descent, the fatal accident happened around 11:40 am.
Rough terrain
For some unknown reason, one of the cheerful elderly woman’s two canes suddenly broke. The 86-year-old lost her balance and then slipped about eight meters over partly rough terrain. She seriously injured herself.
An emergency helicopter flew them to the nearby Rosenheim clinic in Bavaria.
