Cost explosion – Many parents cannot afford private lessons

Date:

More and more parents cannot afford private lessons for their children – at the same time the need for extra hours is increasing. Individual lessons cost an average of 37 euros, group lessons just under 22 euros per hour. This means that prices have increased slightly compared to 2022.

When kids need tutoring, parents have to dig deep into their pockets. Private lessons have become slightly more expensive compared to last year – prices remain at a high level.

Individual lessons cost an average of 37 euros, lessons in groups just under 22 euros per hour, according to the Labor Chamber after an investigation of 29 tutoring institutes in Vienna.

Parents should pay attention to this in tutoring institutions

  • View the prices: Check the prices at the tutoring institutes. Pay attention to the length of the lessons: an hour is not always an hour. From a learning psychological point of view, 45 to 50 minutes is recommended, followed by a break of about ten minutes.
  • Check group size: For group lessons, ask about the number of students and the level of learning. In small groups, learning success can be just as good as in individual training. If the ages are too different or the group is too large, learning success may lag behind.
  • Ask around: Ask friends, acquaintances or other parents about their experiences with tutors.
  • Request commitment period: Make sure there is a commitment period. Some tutoring institutions only offer low prices if you commit for one or more months. Ask if your child has needed tutoring for that long.
  • identify sample: Arrange trial lessons before your child starts a longer course.
