For two weeks, Martha Krumpeck, the well-known co-founder of the “Last Generation” in Austria, was detained in the police detention center in Vienna. She described her arrival as “civil resistance”. She was released Tuesday morning.
According to the “Last Generation”, an outstanding amount of 800 euros was compensated by the replacement prison sentence. Shortly before her inauguration, the climate activist posted a video in which she clarified: “I won’t stop getting in the way until these first simple measures are announced.”
“Protect the climate effectively”
The government is unable to effectively protect the climate and ensure the survival of the people, according to the clip. Krumpeck also called for a 100 km/h speed limit on the autobahn and for politicians to halt new oil and gas drilling in Austria.
On May 2, the last generation of climate activists began their three-week “Störwelle” in Vienna to raise awareness of the climate crisis. However, so far on Tuesday morning there have been no protests. On Monday, they blocked traffic in front of Schönbrunn Palace, causing chaos in morning traffic.
