Not a fair distribution – Every fourth man does nothing in the household

Date:

In Austria, most household chores are done by women. According to a survey by “ImmoScout24” among 500 Austrians between the ages of 18 and 65, a fair distribution between the sexes is not yet the norm. For example, 71 percent of women indicate that they mainly ensure that the bathroom and kitchen are clean. The only exception is the dishwasher.

Here, at least 45 percent of the men surveyed stated they could put it on and take it off in more than half the time. Nearly 50 percent of the female respondents say this about themselves.

repairs and new acquisitions
Three-quarters of the women surveyed say they do all their laundry. About the same number usually or always dust the apartment and clean the toilet. Men, on the other hand, take care – in line with the cliché – of repairs, taking out the household waste (58 percent) and new purchases (47 percent) in 71 percent of the cases.

A third of the men surveyed said they vacuumed more than half the time. Among the female respondents, that number was just under double (61 percent). When shopping, almost 40 percent of men say they do more than half of the shopping, but here too 59 percent were mainly women.

According to the study, the unfair division of household chores became particularly apparent with the iron. Only 13 percent of men stated that they iron laundry more than half the time, while 59 percent of women agreed.

Four percent of women do not take care of the household
Almost 15 percent of the men indicated in the survey that they are not involved in household chores at all. In contrast, only four percent of the women surveyed agreed that they generally did not take care of the household.
