Report those affected – Worrying misery: ‘No one will come soon’

Date:

The Day of Nursing is celebrated again on Friday. However, there is little to celebrate. Family members are at the limit and employees are walking away.

Peter Quapil is angry. He feels abandoned by politics. He lives with his wife Sonja and his mother-in-law in a small two-storey house in Vienna-Ottakring. The mother lives on the ground floor, the couple upstairs – both retired and over 60 themselves. The 86-year-old mother is mentally and physically ill and now needs a lot of attention. Together with two 24-hour nurses, the couple takes care of the elderly woman. Until now, this has been done with care allowance, support and the mother-in-law’s pension. But the financial situation is tense.
